On October 11, a Florida state attorney told police in six North Florida counties that a missing NFA tax stamp or registration doesn’t make possession of a suppressor unlawful under Florida law. Florida Gun Owners is asking the Attorney General to give the rest of the state the same clear answer.

Last week a Florida prosecutor put in writing what gun owners have been asking for, but only for six counties. I want the rest of Florida to get the same answer.
Good guidance, with a hard limit
On October 11, State Attorney Brian Kramer of the 8th Judicial Circuit told police in Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Gilchrist, Levy and Union counties that “Florida law does not independently require an ATF Form 1, Form 4, tax stamp, or registration.” On suppressors, he wrote that “the absence of an NFA tax stamp or registration does not make possession of a suppressor unlawful under Florida law.” That’s the memo as quoted in news reports.
But it covers only his six counties. It isn’t a statewide opinion and it doesn’t change Florida law. It doesn’t touch machine guns or destructive devices either. If you live anywhere else in Florida, you’re still left guessing, and that’s no way to treat law-abiding gun owners.
Demand statewide clarity
I’m asking Florida’s Attorney General to give every Florida gun owner the same clear answer these six counties just got. Add your name today.

Gun owners shouldn’t need to check which county they’re standing in to know whether they’re following the law.
P.S. Pushing Tallahassee takes real resources. If you can, chip in to help Florida Gun Owners fight for statewide clarity. Chip in here.
