Remember SB 88? Washington’s Version Goes Further.

Wed, Oct 21, 2026

Florida Gun Owners fought SB 88, the state ammo bill that died in the Senate Criminal Justice Committee in March. Now H.R. 7166, the so-called “Stop Online Ammunition Sales Act,” goes further, and Rep. Kathy Castor (FL-14) is one of its 23 cosponsors, all Democrats. It would end private ammo sales, require a photo ID in person and report bulk buyers to police.

Back in March, a state ammo bill in Tallahassee, SB 88, died in the Senate Criminal Justice Committee. Florida Gun Owners fought it. Now there’s a federal bill that goes further on online sales and bulk purchases, and one of Florida’s own Congresswomen is on it.

Rep. Kathy Castor (FL-14) is a cosponsor of H.R. 7166, the so-called “Stop Online Ammunition Sales Act.” Here’s what it would do. Only licensed dealers could sell ammo, ending private sales between Floridians. Every buyer would have to show photo ID to the dealer in person, which effectively ends online orders shipped to your home. And anyone buying more than 1,000 rounds in five business days gets reported to the Attorney General and to state or local police.

It has 23 cosponsors, all Democrats, and picked up its newest on Oct. 5, Rep. Troy Carter of Louisiana. It’s sat in the House Judiciary Committee since Jan. 20 without a hearing.

The state version died. Let’s make sure our delegation is on record against the federal one.
